Northbrook Public Library seeks a Technical Services Manager

  

Schedule: 35 hours per week; Varies; 1 weekend a month and 1 night a week

 

About the Position

We are seeking a collaborative, detail oriented Technical Services Manager to lead our active Technical Services Department. The ideal candidate will be familiar with library Technical Services processes including cataloging, acquisitions, and overseeing the entire lifecycle of materials integrating and use and adoption of relevant tools and technology to optimize efficient workflows. They will have strong personnel and change management skills in order to foster cross-departmental collaboration and team work especially in the area of communication. They will be committed to using data driven decisions including staff feedback to manage library and department priorities. 

 

The Technical Services Manager oversees a department of 10, with an Assistant Manager, dedicated Acquisitions staff, receiving, processing, and discard clerks, and 3 full-time Cataloging librarians. The Technical Services Manager works cooperatively to train staff, determine workflows, and handle day-to-day operations. The Technical Services Manager serves as a member of the management team ensuring library-wide initiatives and strategic directions and integrated into workflows and decisions within their department. The Technical Services Manager serves as a liaison to our Integrated Library System (ILS), Cooperative Computer Services (CCS), and ensures the library is following policies set by CCS, the Library Board of Trustees as well as state government.

 

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a Master of Library Science degree or equivalent knowledge from a related field.  Minimum of four years of library experience preferably in the area of Technical Services and/or cataloging, with three years of progressive supervisory work.
