Maker Specialist - Full Time

Northbrook Public Library seeks a Maker Specialist.

  

Full-time: 35 hours/week

Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday and 1 evening a week

 

About the Position

We are seeking an enthusiastic maker to join our Maker Services Department. The ideal candidate will have a broad set of maker/DIY skills, proficiency with a variety of maker tools and equipment, experience with designing and leading maker programming, and a passion for collaborating with people of all ages and abilities.

 

With over 8,000 visitors a year, the Collaboratory is a popular and busy community destination. Maker Specialists act as guides to community members, helping them to create and make in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. They assist users in learning design techniques and software and facilitate use of the Collaboratory’s equipment (laser cutter, sewing & embroidery machines, 3D printers, etc.). They create and lead programs covering a range of maker/DIY areas, from no-tech (fiber arts) to high tech (digital media editing), perform equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, and manage inventory and purchasing for assigned equipment.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Post-secondary degree or equivalent knowledge and skills in area(s) related to the responsibilities of this position.
