Understanding the Electrical Aggregation Referendum
Northbrook businesses and residents are invited to attend this informative program to learn more about a referendum that will appear on the ballot this month that would give the Village the authority to bid on the purchase of electricity. If approved, the referendum would allow the Village to bid collectively with 7 other communities to help residential and small commercial businesses save on their electric bill. Small commercial retail customers who have a peak usage of 100kW or less would be included in the bidding process. Should the referendum pass, ComEd would continue to deliver energy to homes and businesses and respond to reports of any power outages. The process would not impact ComEd’s commitments to the Village to improve their system and to deal with reliability issues. This program will help attendees understand why the referendum is needed, the process for electrical aggregation, the timetable for the bidding process, how an electric bill would be affected, and how to “opt out” of the program. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers.
