UL Demonstrates Advanced Solar Technology
Solar power has long been considered one of the most popular "green" alternatives to burning fossil fuels. Recognizing this trend towards cleaner, renewable sources of energy, many businesses have begun to use solar-powered technology to save on energy costs. Recently, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) invested $130,000 in a new solar power system that includes 72 solar panels designed to provide a portion of the electricity at the Northbrook UL headquarters.
At this informative, hands on lunch program, participants will have a rare opportunity to directly learn about the latest advances in the technology as they have been put to use at UL. Attendees will also learn how the system is linked to a website that helps measure the "carbon footprint" of the project, with statistics on energy usage, cost savings, and energy expended during select time periods. Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity to tour the system and see it at work. UL hopes to share the information with school groups and others in the community as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility mission. There will be plenty of time for questions and answers.
