Monthly Luncheon: August 2005 Lunch -- GBN B'ball Coach Weber
Building a Winning Team This spring, against all odds, Glenbrook North (GBN) High School head varsity basketball coach David Weber, turned the school's little known varsity team into a powerhouse that brought home the school's first ever state basketball championship. Even the Northbrook Star reported that "this victory qualified as one of the more unlikely boys basketball championships in the history of IHSA state competition." The title was not only the first in school history, but the first won by a Central Suburban League team in over 25 years. Throughout the season GBN defeated well known powerhouse city and downstate schools - a feat only a few suburban schools have ever accomplished. Head coach Dave Weber was credited for bringing the team together and helping players believe in their ability to do the impossible. Just as in sports, many businesses are filled with knowledgeable and skilled employees who can benefit from strong leadership and direction. Getting them to work together toward a common goal is constant challenge for managers. Weber will speak at this month's lunch about the art of teamwork and bringing talented individuals together to build a winning business strategy. Weber has been coaching at GBN for 8 years.
