Annual Economic Outlook Breakfast
While today’s economy has many positive indicators, there are a number of different scenarios to consider when looking into the future, according to Wells Fargo Private Bank Chief Investment Officer Erik Davidson, the keynote speaker at this year’s Economic Outlook Breakfast. The informative annual breakfast, with insightful observations about the economy, will be held in partnership with the Deerfield Bannockburn Riverwoods (DBR) and Glenview Chambers. Davidson’s presentation will focus on current economic conditions, the prevailing political climate, as well as global influences on the American economy. It will also include information on substantive risks that investors need to consider and some ideas on actions to take.
Among the factors Davidson will discuss are U.S. investor sentiment compared to both consumer confidence and the S& P 500 performance, as well as the history of stock market bull markets and the recent relatively high rate of return. He will also include information on valuations through the lens of interest rates, a perspective of global equity valuations, and the impact of the U.S. government gross debt, which is at an all-time high,
Davidson will comment on our instincts to always look at investments in the short run, and our tendency to long for "the good old days," which actually works against our interests. Instead, he will highlight the advantages of looking at the positive indicators we are experiencing -- the relatively strong employment numbers, low inflation, and positive economic growth trends in both the U.S. and global economies. Eventually, he will point out, future investors might consider these to be "the good old days." The importance of becoming long term thinkers and developing an "all weather" portfolio that can withstand the test of time, will also be an important part of his message.
In his position, Davidson oversees more than $180 billion in assets for high net worth private clients. He leads a team of investment professionals throughout the country, who deliver custom and diversified portfolio management for bank clients. Davidson also serves as the primary spokesperson on Wells Fargo Private Bank’s investment strategy, and oversees global equity and fixed-income portfolio management and research, guided portfolios, investment products, investment tools and investment analytics.
With more than 30 years of experience in financial services, Davidson has been with Wells Fargo for 14 years in a number of investment leadership positions at both the regional and national level. Davidson has co-authored the book Investing in Separate Accounts and published numerous investment-related articles. He often speaks at investment-industry conferences and is regularly featured in the media including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and on TV: CNBC, Fox Business News, Reuters and Bloomberg.
Currently a Doctoral Candidate at DePaul University’s Graduate School of Business, Davidson is doing his dissertation in the area of Behavioral Finance. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and has an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Management.
