Annual Economic Outlook Breakfast
Annual Economic Outlook Breakfastfeaturing Northern Trust Economist Paul Kasriel

With record high energy prices, continued weakness in the housing market, a credit crisis in the mortgage industry, and a host of other worrisome economic indicators, the economy is on everyone’s mind. Will the Feds raise or lower interest rates? Will this be the year that the housing market recovers? What about other unknowns that could inject uncertainty into the financial markets, including the upcoming Presidential election?
Highly regarded for his accurate economic forecasting, and one of the first economists to develop indicators that predicted a recession, Paul Kasriel, Northern Trust’s Senior Vice President and Director of Economic Research, will be this year’s featured Economic Outlook Breakfast speaker. Kasriel is responsible for making Northern Trusts’s economic and interest rate forecasts, and advises the bank’s Assets-Liabilities Committee as well as the Investment Policy Committee.
Kasriel is the author of a newsletter entitled “The Ecotrarian: Your alternative to the consensus,” a weekly column of analysis of topical issues related to the economy and financial markets. He often offers his insight on the global economy, housing, interest rates, rising energy costs, the strength of the dollar, inflation, emerging markets and policy decisions that affect global markets. He is also the co-author of a book entitled Seven Indicators that Move Markets,
Kasriel began his career as a research economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago where he analyzed development in the money and capital markets. He is currently a lecturer in finance at the DePaul University Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and has been a lecturer in finance at the Northwestern University Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
