Tuesday, December 17th
11:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Sheraton Northbrook
1110 Willow Road
$25 in advance/ $35 at the door
Village President Sandy Frum will be the keynote speaker at this month’s legislative luncheon where she will discuss major issues facing the Village of Northbrook, and will reflect on some of the recent accomplishments along with the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
In this annual address to the business community, President Frum will give an update on Northbrook’s economic development projects and offer some insight on how Village leaders analyze data in order to continually monitor economic trends that are used as a guide during budget process. Among the important data collected and analyzed each quarter are office, industrial and retail vacancies, local sales tax collections, the hotel market, housing market statistics, building permits and the unemployment rate. She will also explain how businesses can take advantage of useful information posted on the Village website, including the permitting process and zoning requirements.
Frum’s presentation will also include an overview of the major issues that have come before the Northwest Municipal Conference (NMC), an organization that she chairs. The NMC advocates on behalf of 42 communities and represents over 1.3 million Illinois residents. Issues monitored by the NMC include proposals to address the state’s pension crisis, responsible bidder legislation which recently passed out of committee, and the need for Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reform. In addition, she will touch on possible federal legislation that would discontinue the tax exemption on municipal bonds and a proposed tax on Internet sales.
To help business owners know where to turn for help, Frum will also identify Village staff members who serve as helpful resources for the business community.
Frum was re-elected to her second term as Village President in 2013. She was first elected as Village President in April 2009. A resident of Northbrook for nearly 36 years, President Frum previously served on the Village Board for 22 years as a Village Trustee. She was elected as Chair of the Northwest Municipal Conference for 2013 – 2014 in June.
There will be ample opportunities for questions and answers during this informative lunch. Call (847)498-5555 to make a reservation or register online
