Sen. Garrett, who has served in the Illinois Senate since 2003, lists as one of her priorities the need for further government ethics reform. As Chair of the Senate Environment Committee, she also advocates improving water quality by addressing pharmaceutical contamination. She is a strong advocate of reforming the budget process across the state, encouraging agencies to prioritize their programs to ensure that the most critical state and local programs are not cut. She has also introduced legislation that would require the state to reevaluate all instructional mandates on public schools.
