Sen. Garrett, who has served in the Illinois Senate since 2003, lists as one of her priorities the need for further government ethics reform. As Chair of the Senate Environment Committee, she also advocates improving water quality by addressing pharmaceutical contamination. She is a strong advocate of reforming the budget process across the state, encouraging agencies to prioritize their programs to ensure that the most critical state and local programs are not cut. She has also introduced legislation that would require the state to reevaluate all instructional mandates on public schools. 
Sen. Schoenberg, who has served in the Senate since 2003 serves as Assistant Majority Leader and is also Vice chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. He has been a long-standing advocate for widening a 1.2 mile stretch of Willow Road through Northfield. He is also an active supporter of campaign finance reform, ethics reform and is an active proponent of environmental legislation.

Four of Northbrook’s state legislators will review the highlights and challenges of the current legislative session at the Chamber’s annual legislative wrap-up lunch on Monday, June 21st. Illinois Senators Susan Garrett (D-29) and Jeffrey Schoenberg (D-9) along with Representatives Karen May (D-58) and Elaine Nekritz (D-57) will each comment briefly on their legislative priorities and comment on a number of other hot topics in Springfield. With the state’s dire financial situation, the legislators are expected to comment on plans to address the state’s mounting budget deficit. They will also comment on the recent pension reforms and whether further steps need to be taken to address concerns about the state’s pension obligations. They will also discuss how Northbrook and the North Shore could be impacted by efforts to reform the process to redraw legislative boundaries based on the latest Census data.
