Northbrook Public Library seeks a Technical Services Assistant Manager


Full-time: 35 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm; occasional evenings and weekends
Anticipated Start Date: September 2024


About the Position

We are seeking a collaborative, innovative, and detail-oriented Assistant Manager to join our Technical Services Department. The Assistant Manager will review and maintain department procedures and processes and ensure that materials move smoothly from acquisitions to withdrawal. The ideal candidate will have experience cataloging a wide variety of materials. The Assistant Manager will also work closely with the Technical Services Manager to ensure that staff are well trained.


Responsibilities include:

  • Develops strategic goals, processes, and procedures for the department, in collaboration with the Technical Services Manager
  • Works with manager on project planning and implementation
  • Serves as acting manager when Technical Services Manager is not available
  • Assists the manager in overseeing the timely workflow of materials from acquisition to withdrawal
  • Catalogs and classifies assigned materials according to national standards and local practices
  •  Hires, trains, coaches, evaluates, disciplines, and supervises assigned staff

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for candidates with the knowledge, skills, and development gained through a Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent experience. Applicants should have at least 3-5 years of cataloging and supervisory experience. Experience with the Polaris ILS is a plus.
